We use a variety of materials, including nonfiction trade books, articles, historical fiction, the internet, and audiovisual materials. We will also discuss Current Events on a weekly basis. In Individuals & Societies Year 4 (ninth grade), students learn about American history from the pre Columbian period through the twentieth century. Students will also conduct a year-long personal investigation and research project following the experiences, hopes, challenges, progress... of one group in American society of their choosing. We use a variety of source materials including nonfiction books, articles, the internet, and audiovisual materials. Extended writing and historical analysis are completed with each unit. Students will take on the role of a historian throughout the year.
